Prime your lid

The first step of eye makeup should be priming your eye area so as to avoid the smudging of eyeshadow after some time. You can prime your eyes using eyeshadow primer or you can use a concealer. Both of these will provide you with a perfect smooth base for eyeshadow. Thus with this you will get a flawless base.

Pick your eyeshadow shades

If you are doing a classic smokey eye look, for that you need three shades a shade for lid, a crease color and a highlight shade. Crease color shade must be the darker one, use lighter shade for highlight and a mid tone shade for eye lid. For classic smokey eye makeup matte shades in black, brown and grey are preferred. For small eyes don’t use too dark shades this makes your eyes look smaller.

Apply your all-over eyeshadow shade

Apply your eyeshadow all over your eye lid using an eyeshadow brush. Using brush blend it properly from lower part of lid to middle part of lid. Use an eyeshadow shade closer to your brow shade to create eye opening effect. This makes your lid space look bigger.

Apply crease color

Now it’s time to apply crease color. Use a coordinating dark shade. Use a blending brush to blend color into outer corners of your eyes. Blend in small circular motion and move towards center of eyelid. Add layers to intensify the pigment. When there is a smooth transition between crease color and your all over shade move towards next step.

Apply your highlight

Now use a color which is two shades lighter than your all over color from crease up to your brow bone. This step helps to smooth out the look. You can also dab some highlight on inner corners of your eyes to make them look bright.

Blend some more

The main part of creating smokey eyes is blending all the three colors in such a way that there is seamless transition between three shades. If you don’t blend it properly, your eye will start looking black instead of getting a smokey eye look.

Use eyeliner

Use a black eyeshadow first to line your eyes and then use a liquid eyeliner. This helps you to ensure shape you want. Apply it over upper and lower lash line. This gives you a bold look. If you want a light smokey eye look, you can use a pencil eye liner.

Finish it off with mascara

After applying liner you should move towards next step which is mascara. Use a black mascara while you are creating a smokey eye look. Apply mascara to your bottom lash first and then apply on your top lash. This way helps you to prevent getting mascara all over your lid when you are applying mascara over the bottom lid.

So in this way you can get a beautiful smokey eye look. We have shared everything you need to know to do smokey eye makeup. You must give a try and practice creating smokey eye look while following these steps and slowly you will master this look.
